Research activities

Carol Runyan is Professor of Health Behavior and Health Education and of Pediatrics, as well as being the Director of the UNC Injury Prevention Research Center (www.iprc.unc.edu). Her research addresses the epidemiology and prevention of both violence and unintentional injuries, with special emphasis on adolescents and on policy-related issues. Her current research is focused on safety of adolescent workers and the implications of work for adolescent violence. In addition, she studies workplace violence and safety in the home environment. Dr. Runyan is a national leader in injury control training and currently directs a national training effort aimed at training practitioners to address injury and violence prevention. She teaches a course on injury and violence as public health problems as well as components of both doctoral and master’s foundation courses on the historical and conceptual basis of public health and health education.
