Research activities

Dr. Stevens is the Chair of the Department of Nutrition and the AICR/WCRF Distinguished Professor. She is a nutrition epidemiologist with a large research program focusing on the causes, consequences, and prevention of obesity in different populations. She has special interests in minority health, anthropometry and physical activity and conducts studies on obesity using data from several large, multi-center studies. Dr. Stevens has been the principal investigator of the Coordinating Center for two national trials that examine obesity and physical activity in children and adolescents. She is a member of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, the American Heart Association Council on Epidemiology, the North American Society for the Study of Obesity and the International Association for the Study of Obesity. She has served as a councilor for the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, Vice President of Scientific Affairs for the International Association for the Study of Obesity and on expert panels for the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, the Institute of Medicine and the World Health Organization.
