Dr. Peggy Leatt, PhD Thank you for visiting the website for the Office of Academic Affairs in the School of Public Health (SPH) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). At SPH we know that health care leaders need a variety of skills and knowledge to be prepared for all of the new developments that lay ahead. That is why the SPH Office of Academic Affairs is committed to the pursuit of excellence in all of the school’s academic activities. We ensure that SPH courses meet the changing needs of local and global communities as well as meeting high standards of integrity and rigor.

Our success is built upon the stature of our faculty. That is, to be effective, the School of Public Health needs a cadre of individuals, irrespective of gender, race, or ethnicity, who are dedicated to creative and innovative approaches to education. While SPH is committed to attracting individuals who can achieve just that, the Office of Academic Affairs has been entrusted with facilitating their professional growth.

The responsibilities of the associate dean for Academic Affairs includes being accountable for the quality of academic programs in the School of Public Health.  It includes serving in oversight capacity for the Appointment, Promotions and Tenure as well as the Academic Programs Committee. The associate dean represents the School of Public Health on UNC CH-wide committees related to Academic Affairs as well as related committees at professional associations such as the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) and the College on Education for Public Health (CEPH). One of the major responsibilities in the next three years will be ensuring that SPH meets the newly revised criteria for CEPH accreditation and to oversee the preparation of the self-study documentation. One of the exciting challenges of the position is to encourage interdisciplinary approaches to education and use of innovative teaching and learning methodologies.

I invite you to explore the pages of this site to learn more about the Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (APT) Committee; Academic Programs Committee (APC); CEPH as well as other accreditation and assessment teams, and the dedicated personnel, who make our endeavors possible.  As you explore this site, please feel free to let us know how we might serve you better,

sph_oaa@unc.edu.

Yours sincerely,

Peggy Leatt, PhD
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
