The Gillings gift supports public health students through almost every program offering. More than 100 students have worked on Gillings Innovation Labs or with Gillings Visiting Professors. Historical funding for enhanced curricular innovations in global health and financial literacy reaches almost every student enrolled at the School. Three additional awards are described below.
Gillings Dissertation Awards
Up to two Gillings Dissertation Awards will be made each year to current doctoral candidates at the School whose work has strong potential for public health impact. The School-wide Student Awards Committee solicits and reviews applications.

Any person applying to a graduate degree program in the School will be eligible to receive merit-based financial support in the form of a Gillings Merit Scholarship or Award. Department chairs and their admissions committees select very highly competitive applicants to receive this support. The School plans to make funding pools available each year.
Details on these awards are available in the fall semester of each academic year through the Office of Student Affairs, which identifies funding support from other sources, too.
Please see below for a new opportunity for student involvement.
Spotlight on Student Research The Spotlight on student Research poster event -- held in conjunction with
the Innovations In Public Health lecture -- is an opportunity for students
to showcase their original research. All students are welcome to participate.
Two award winners are selected from the presenters: the Delta Omega (Theta
chapter) award and the Gillings Student Poster award.
This year's event will be held on Tuesday, April 3rd. If you would like to present your research, please register online before March 30. Contact accelerate@unc.edu for more information.
