What is the SPH Alumni Association?

Answer:

All graduates of the School are members of the Alumni Association- there are no dues or other requirements for joining. There is a 23-member governing board of the Alumni Association.  Learn more here or contact Cutler Andrews, Director of Alumni Affairs and Annual Fund at cutler_andrews@unc.edu

Question:

How can I stay informed about the Alumni Association and/or School of Public Health activities?

Answer:

There are many ways to stay informed about news, activities and events. Carolina Public Health, the School's magazine, is sent to all alumni. We send periodic news and event announcements to alumni for whom we have current e-mail addresses. Also visit our Web site at www.sph.unc.edu for the latest updates, news releases and a calendar of events and activities.

Question:

How can I get involved as a volunteer?

Answer:

There are many opportunities to stay involved in the life of the School, regardless or where you live and work.  You could serve as a field placement preceptor, attend a SPH career day, be a mentor for current students, help with fund raising, or collaborate in research. Why should I contribute to the School?

Answer:

Although the School of Public Health is a state-supported institution, public funds comprise less than 30 percent of our annual budget. Private giving helps the School recruit the highest caliber students, attract and retain the best faculty, and develop new research and service programs that further the public's health in the state, the nation and the world.

Question:

I’m interested in purchasing t-shirts or other gifts with the UNC logo—who should I contact?

Answer:

T-shirt, sweatshirt, mugs and other UNC gifts can be purchased online at UNC’s Student Stores.  Visit http://store107.collegestoreonline.com for more information.

Question:

I’m trying to find an old classmate I met at the School.  How do I locate him/her?

Answer:

You can access the directory by going to the alumni directory web page.

Question:

I'd like to access the alumni directory, but I've lost my PID number. What should I do?

Answer:

The alumni directory is password protected. School of Public Health alumni can gain access by using their University ID number (PID). Alumni not able to locate their University ID should contact the General Alumni Association by emailing alumni@unc.edu.

Question:

I’m an alumnus/alumna wanting to talk with someone about career development.  Is there someone at the School of Public Health who can help me?

Answer:

The Office of Student Affairs provides information, connections, and advice that can help students (and public health alumni) find their public health career and specific job, internship and other opportunities.  Our Career Services Director can be reached at 919.966.2499. Also, the UNC General Alumni Association also offers career services to UNC alumni.  For more information, go to http://alumni.unc.edu.

Answer:

Employers may post specific full and part time job, internship, assistantship, fellowship, etc. opportunities directly to the School of Public Health Career database.

Answer:

Private giving helps the School recruit the highest caliber students, attract and retain the best faculty, and develop new research and service programs that further the public's health in North Carolina, the nation, and the world. What are the School's fundraising priorities?

Answer:

The School of Public Health has several fundraising priorities, including:

  • The Michael Hooker Research Center, which houses cutting-edge research in environmental science, epidemiology, and nutrition;
  • Student scholarships and assistance;
  • Faculty support;
  • Interdisciplinary service and outreach programs addressing such issues as
    • obesity prevention,
    • health disparities,
    • public health leadership,
    • global health, and
    • the environment.
