![]() Dr. P.K. Sen The University of North Carolina
at Chapel Hill wishes to welcome Dr. Aluisio Pinheiro from the University of Campinas, Brazil to the biostatistics
department as the 2012 P. K. Sen Distinguished Visiting Professor in
Biostatistics. Pinheiro will come to Chapel
Hill to conduct research, give lectures and interact with faculty, students,
and the university community.
The professorship seeks to recruit aspiring international scholars in
statistical science to UNC - with a preference for those from developing
countries. Pinheiro, the first ever recipient
of the newly established award, is highly qualified for this appointment
and was selected following an international search conducted by the department.
Pinheiro is currently on the
faculty of the Department of Statistics, University of Campinas, Brazil, and he ![]() Dr. Aluisio Pinheiro The department looks forward to
benefiting from his intensive interaction with our faculty and students in
regards to both methodological and inter-disciplinary research, and expects
that he will return to his home country to further expand the reach of work
begun here in Chapel Hill. Additionally, the department would like to welcome Dr.
Hildete Pinheiro, also from the University of Campinas, as a visiting professor.
A 1997 PhD graduate from UNC's department of biostatistics, she will
teach a course in the department on sample survey methods. The Pinheiro family will reside in Chapel
Hill during their stay.

Boshamer Distinguished Professor, Biostatistics and Professor, Department of
