The Social Security Act establishes the framework in which State Agencies carry out the Medicare certification process. The State Agencies perform initial surveys and periodic resurveys of all providers and certain kinds of suppliers. These surveys are conducted to ascertain whether a provider/supplier meets applicable requirements for participation in the Medicare and/or Medicaid programs, and to evaluate performance and effectiveness in rendering a safe and acceptable quality of care. This session covers all aspects of site inspection, survey, and the certification process required of all nursing homes under Federal and North Carolina laws. The subjects covered include accreditation, licensure, reimbursement and preparation for on site surveys. The session also provides CMS forms and rules and regulations used to address deficiencies, resident census data and long term care facility application process. It prepares the administrator for a successful site visit conducted by the North Carolina Division of Facility Services (DFS).
