Offered by one of the premier health administration departments in the U.S. (currently ranked #2 by U.S. News & World Report), the Executive MPH program develops marketable skills necessary for students to effectively manage complex healthcare systems in an ever-changing environment. Utilizing the top faculty in the field, sophisticated online technology, and lively group discussions, the Executive MPH program sets itself apart as a leader and innovator.
The MPH is a 48-credit hour curriculum consisting of 15 courses that offers areas of concentrated study in either management or dental public health within the public sector. Our graduates learn leadership and decision-making skills that help them shape government policy and apply their managerial skills and knowledge to tasks that range from solving highly technical problems to addressing socially complex issues. The dental public health concentration provides education in the theory and practice of dental public health. The MPH is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
The Executive MPH program is designed for working professionals worldwide. Students come from a variety of careers in organizations such as integrated delivery systems, hospitals, HMOs, pharmaceutical firms, insurers, group practices, consulting firms, state and local health departments, and government agencies (e.g., the CDC, the Public Health Service, the Indian Health Service, and the Department of Defense). This competitive program limits enrollment to 40 new students per year. Students are admitted twice a year, for the fall and spring terms.
Only three eight-day sessions are required in Chapel Hill per year. During the remainder of the year, students complete work via the Internet by accessing individual course Web sites equipped with specialized client-server software. Students generally take two courses per session and complete the MPH degree in two years.
The curriculum includes course sequences addressing public health, financial management, management, analysis and healthcare systems.
