Overview
The Public Health Leadership Certificate is an 11-credit hour program of study.
The content is the same as the core content taught in the MPH programs offered
by the Public Health Leadership Program. The program is especially designed to
accommodate working professionals with most courses being completed entirely
online.

Who Should Apply
- Experienced public health practitioners who have assumed greater
administrative and management responsibilities and desire more formal
education in leadership skills.
- Public health nurses and other public health specialists who want to
broaden their knowledge and education to encompass leadership skills.
- Public health and other health care professionals who want to learn
how to improve their team leadership skills.
- Those in health or social service related professions who may not
need a full MPH, but wish to enhance their professional knowledge of how to be
an effective leader in public health organizations.
- Those wishing to pursue an MPH in Public Health and expecting to use
some of these credits towards that goal.

Benefits
This program is beneficial to a wide variety of public
health professionals who desire to enhance their leadership skills and
potential. The curriculum is designed to provide leadership development
directed at the individual, team, organizational and community levels within the
context of public health and health care. As a stand alone certificate,
students will leave with a skill set that will enable them to have greater
influence and effectiveness within their organizations. For those seeking to
apply the credits to a MPH program, all 11 credits may be transferred into the
Public Health Leadership MPH (both residential and distance formats.)

Curriculum
Public Health Leadership Seminar- Leadership Style (2 credits) – PUBH 690 - This course is conducted in a face to face
workshop format. It is designed to further students' understanding of
leadership and of their leadership skills and style.
Core Principles of Public Health Leadership (3 credits) – PUBH 691 -
introduces students to major theories and concepts of leadership, ways of
applying these to public health issues requiring leadership, and provides an
opportunity for students to develop skills and resources for further developing
their own and others' leadership.
Project Management
Principles & Practices (3 credits) – PUBH 647 - an overview of
leadership and management principles and practices with an emphasis on project
management; it focuses on management and leadership skills that are applicable
to team based organizations and to public health projects and programs.
Elective Course

Admission Criteria
- Priority
given to those with at least five years in a health or social science related field
- Experience in team or organizational management and leadership
- Excellent
English language skills, especially writing skills
- A
personal statement demonstrating leadership experience or potential and your personal leadership goals.
