Overview Below is a brief overview of the DrPH program. If you'd like more detailed information, please see the DrPH section of the Health Policy and Adminstration web site. Also see our NEW UNC DrPH Health Leadership Consortium information! The Doctoral Program in Health Leadership prepares
mid-career professionals for top positions in organizations working to improve
the public’s health. The three-year, cohort-based distance program confers a DrPH
in Health Administration. Students may be based in the U.S. or abroad, providing they have reliable access to high speed Internet services. Cohorts of learners proceed together through the three-year program. The first two years are comprised entirely of required coursework – usually six credit hours per semester, including summers, totaling 36 hours, culminating in completion of comprehensive exams and dissertation defense. The dissertation is completed during the third year (9-15 credit hours). The complete curriculum plan is available here. Additional details
about courses and dissertation requirements are available on the program web
site from the department of Health Policy and Management.
With the exception of three short visits to Chapel Hill in each of years one and two, learning takes place in participants’ homes and offices, away from the UNC campus. Students connect to the faculty and their peers mainly via computer, making substantial use of state-of-the-art technology that allows students and faculty to interact productively and which supports live video, audio, and data sharing.
