UNC public health and other students at UNC regularly seek funding to support their global health research and projects. The SPH Office of Global Health provides limited funding for specific activities, including the Malawi Summer Institute, and specific fellowships and internships.

For other sources of on-campus and off-campus funding, please use the resources below. 

On-Campus Resources 

  • The Office of Global Health publishes This Week in Global Health detailing funding and internship opportunities as well as local and regional events. To subscribe to the listserv email the Office of Global Health.
  • Any student enrolled in a degree-seeking program in the UNC School of Public Health is eligible to become an Associate Professional Member” of the Global Health Council at no charge. Memberships includes: access to the GHC jobs database, weekly global health news updates, discounts to the annual conference, and support from and networking opportunities within the national University Coalitions for Global Health Resource Group.  
  • Grantsource Library provides information and services to UNC-Chapel Hill faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students seeking funding for research, collaborative projects, fellowships and other scholarly activities.
  • UNC Global: A list of searchable databases provides access to the following kinds of funding opportunities that support research and scholarly activities conducted by Carolina faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, students and prospective students.
    • The Center for Global Initiatives awards travel funds to both graduate and undergraduate students. They have several funding mechanisms, so be sure to visit their website to learn more.
  • Community of Science: "Find funding with COS Funding Opportunities: search the world's most comprehensive funding resource, with more than 22,000 records representing nearly 400,000 opportunities, worth over $33 billion." Visit the GrantSource Library website if you have questions.

Off-Campus Resources

  • The Association of Schools of Public Health lists student funding, internship and fellowship opportunities.
  • Institute for International Education funding database for international students. Includes scholarships, fellowships and grants for international students seeking funding to study in the U.S.
  • The Directory of Grants and Fellowships in Global Health Sciences published by the Fogarty International Center (NIH) is "a comprehensive compilation of international funding opportunities in biomedical and behavioral research"
  • ASPH/CDC Allan Rosenfield Global Health Fellowship Program
    In recognition of a career dedicated to improving the health of the world's most vulnerable populations, ASPH, with support from the CDC, established a fellowship in honor of Dean Allan Rosenfield, dean of the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. The Allan Rosenfield Global Health Fellowship provides international training opportunities for recent graduates of ASPH member accredited schools of public health (MPH and Doctoral level). Early career professionals with graduate degrees from ASPH member schools of public health are also eligible to apply. 
  • NIH/Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars Program.
    The program offers a one-year clinical research training experience to advanced standing students in U.S. medical, osteopathic, or dental school; or students enrolled in doctoral level programs at U.S. schools of public health, optometry, nursing, pharmacy, or veterinary medicine.  

    This is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to experience mentored research training at top-ranked NIH funded research centers in a diverse group of countries, including Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, China, Haiti, India, Kenya, Mali, Peru, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Zambia. The program is sponsored by the NIH's Fogarty International Center (FIC) in partnership with the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the NIH National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, and the NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse. The Association of American Medical Colleges, Vanderbilt University, Meharry Medical College, Indent Inc., and the Association of Schools of Public Health are managing the program.
