Title & Abstract:

DTI Analysis in the Developing Brain of Humans and Non-Human Primates

Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) has become increasingly important as a means of investigating the structure and properties of neural white matter, with many applications in our own research of the developing brain of humans and macaque monkeys. Several analysis frameworks have been proposed, such as region based, voxel-based as well as fiber tract based framework.
I will present our current work in this field using both fiber tract and region based analysis. These methods will be illustrated in applications of normal brain development in rhesus macaques, as well as neonatal white matter pathology in Krabbe's disease.  I will further describe two ongoing development efforts: a) towards an automated analysis of atlas based, parametrized DTI fiber tracts and b) the use of DTI based connectivity information as the basis for a novel, population based cortical correspondence computation.
