The Public Health Leadership Program offers a unique opportunity for working public health professionals to earn a 42-credit Master of Public Health (MPH) degree through online courses. The distance program replicates the classroom experience by using Web-based courses consisting of lectures, discussion forums, group and individual assignments, papers and exams.
The practice-based curriculum in the Leadership MPH is interdisciplinary and addresses the core workforce competencies in public health while placing special emphasis on leadership. This degree is designed for health and healthcare professionals seeking a population-based perspective derived from the core public health functions of assessment, assurance and policy development. All class work is completed online and students are required to come to campus only two times during the three years it typically takes to complete the program on a part-time basis. The duration of both on-campus sessions is four days. Students usually take two courses each semester, fall and spring, and one course during one summer. Student choose from one of four curriculum focus areas, including: 1) Public Health Practice, 2) Public Health Program Development, 3) Public Health Nursing (for BSNs only), and 4) Field Epidemiology.
All earned credits from the Certificates in Core Public Health Concepts, Field Epidemiology, or Public Health Leadership are transferable into the Leadership MPH program.
