Support diversity and health disparities research

The National Institutes of Health defines health disparities as the "differences in the incidence, prevalence, mortality, and burden of diseases and other adverse health conditions that exist among specific population groups in the United States." Low-income populations and communities of color disproportionately experience worse health outcomes across a broad spectrum of illnesses, injuries, and treatment outcomes. At the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, we believe that a diverse body of researchers, practitioners, staff, and students is vital to the development of successful strategies and approaches to eliminate threats to health resulting from health disparities. Therefore, the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health is committed to expanding the diversity of our faculty, student, and staff population and in supporting research targeted at reducing and ultimately eliminating health-related disparities.
