![]() Dr. Phil Singer (right) and Ellen Singer Dr. Singer, a recently retired distinguished professor of environmental sciences and engineering at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, now is an adjunct professor in the department. "In public health, we understand that community is at the core of a healthy public," said Lewis Margolis, MD, MPH, associate professor of maternal and child health and former president of the federation. "Through their leadership, wisdom and generosity, Ellen and Phil Singer have played key roles in building a vibrant Jewish community that partners in so many ways with the entire Durham-Chapel Hill community."
