The Department of Epidemiology at UNC is dedicated to the development and application of research methods to understand the patterns and causes of health and disease, and the application of that knowledge to improving the health of populations. We provide strong training in research methods and opportunities for the application of epidemiology to a wide range of health problems through our research.

The academic environment in the Department is collegial, collaborative, and supportive. Students often meet in the Epidemiology student room between classes to discuss course work, chat, or eat lunch.  They use computers in the Epidemiology lab to complete assignments or print out papers. The Epidemiology Student Organization (ESO) is a student run group that supports and organizes social and professional development events for the department.
