"Academic Public Health Community Responds to Hurricanes: A History of the North Carolina School of Public Health Response and New Infrastructure, 1999-2006," authored by Jennifer A. Horney, MA, MPH, and Pia D.M. MacDonald, PhD, MPH, has been published in the March-April 2007 Public Health Reports.

The article focuses on ways in which the North Carolina Institute for Public Health and Team Epi-Aid have contributed to improved efficiency and coordination of the School's response to hurricanes.

Team Epi-Aid is a volunteer organization at the School that provides students with valuable field experience while assisting state and local health departments during public health emergencies.

MacDonald is a research assistant professor in the Department of Epidemiology.  Horney is an epidemiology doctoral student.
