![]() Kennedy in Uganda. You
probably remember the insights, experiences and friendship you shared with
students like Kennedy during your time at UNC, and how much their presence deepened
your understanding of global health. But one thing has changed - the grants that used to fund such students have largely
disappeared. Funding for many of our
global health students - both international students and those from the US who
want to work in global public health - is increasingly challenged by the
economic crisis.
At the same time, the need to prepare tomorrow's public health leaders
to tackle the world's critical public health challenges has never been more acute.
From the choices you have made in
your education and career, we know you care about public health - and today, as
never before, public health is global health. With your support, we
can ensure that our School continues to produce tomorrow's global health leaders
and trailblazers, equipped to solve the public health problems that affect us
all.
At
this critical time, we are asking friends of our School to please "give back"
by supporting our global health program. Your gift will help us to attract and sustain
excellent students like Kennedy, so that they can turn their training into
critically needed work in their home countries.
It will help us build a student travel fund that makes summer research
and service in the world's poorest countries possible. It will support capacity building and
educational exchange in some of the most challenging regions of the world,
including our Malawi-Carolina Summer Institute. The
impact of your gift will touch - and save - many lives.
On
behalf of our current and future global health students, thank you for your
support.
Sincerely,
Margaret (Peggy) Bentley, PhD
