Global Vaccines, Inc.
Global Vaccines, Inc (GVI) was formed as a
not-for-profit company by Dr. Robert Johnston, the Director of the Carolina Vaccine Institute
and faculty member of the UNC School of Medicine in order to develop new
vaccines free from the limitations of high profit-margin requirements. The
organization is developing platform vaccine technologies that can be applied to
a broad spectrum of disease targets selected on the basis of global public
health need rather than market potential. Global's
approach will benefit everyone involved in the research, development,
distribution and use of vaccines. Vaccines will be provided to the
populations most in need. WHO-approved vaccine manufacturers in developing
countries will have a pipeline of high-technology products for the populations
that they serve. Commercial vaccine companies will have the opportunity to
license more mature and therefore less financially risky vaccine technologies
from Global for their geographically-limited use in profitable
markets with a portion of their revenues returned to Global to support our global efforts.
