Global Health Summer Practicum - Immediate Opening(Office of Global Health & Stop Hunger Now)
Timeline: March 1, 2012 to August 30, 2012
The
Office of Global Health seeks an MPH, MSPH or PhD student to assist in the development
of an implementation plan for scaling up a pilot monitoring and evaluation framework
for school feeding programs. The intern's
second project will be to design data collection instruments and conduct a formative
evaluation on a topic related to school feeding in Nicaragua (or another
country to be determined). This will
include a two to three week in-country experience. IRB approval may need to be obtained.
Stop Hunger Now (www.stophungernow.org) is a global NGO, with headquarters in
Raleigh, NC, that conducts a meal
packaging program through which volunteers package high protein, dehydrated
meals. These meals are then delivered to
support school feeding programs worldwide.
Ideally,
the intern will begin the work in March 2012 for 10-15 hours per week until the
end of the spring 2012 semester to plan for summer field work and report
writing. The intern will be working with both a UNC SPH faculty mentor selected by the Office of Global Health and the
International Operations Director at Stop Hunger Now. The
intern will be paid a monthly stipend; also, expenses including airfare and per
diem will be paid for the in-country component of the internship.
The
intern should know or be committed to learning EPI-INFO, a field-to-report
software, developed by CDC that is being used by Stop Hunger Now in the
monitoring and evaluation program. A
background in evaluation and/or qualitative methods, including participant
observation and in-depth interviewing, is also helpful. Field and research
experience in one or more developing countries and Spanish language proficiency
is desirable.
Deliverables
will include an implementation plan and a field report from the in-country
evaluation experience. Copies are due to
the UNC-SPH Office of Global Health and Stop Hunger Now by August 15, 2012.
Please
send your resume, cover letter, two references and UNC transcripts to ogh@unc.edu by February 13, 2012.
