Admissions requirements
In addition to the general university admissions requirements,
departmental admissions requirements for both master's and doctoral
students include:

Bachelor's degree from a US accredited institution
(or foreign equivalent) based upon a four year curriculum. Applicants
to the doctoral program must have a master's degree.

For international applicants,
TOEFL scores (at least 550 on the paper-based exam with a minimum of 50 in each section or 79 on the internet-based exam) and a financial certificate
guaranteeing sufficient funds to cover a year's expenses, including
tuition and fees.
- A financial certificate must be completed at the time an application is submitted.

Application materials
The following items are required to complete your international application.
Required Application Materials

Application fee of $77.

Transcripts
- One unofficial transcript from each post-secondary institution attended must be uploaded within the application (including study abroad and non-degree courses). If offered admission, one paper official transcript for each post-secondary institution attended will be required.
- International applicants must also submit a certified
English translation of transcripts not issued in English.

Standardized test scores
- Send recent GRE scores (no more than 5 years old) from the Educational Testing Services
website to the
Graduate
School (UNC Code 5816).
- TOEFL scores (no more than 2 years old) from the from the Educational Testing Services
website to the
Graduate
School (UNC Code 5816).
- MCAT scores are acceptable in place of GRE scores, but not
recommended.
- Current letters of recommendation
- The email address of three recommenders will be required with the application for electronic submission and delivery.
