When I was applying to the master’s program, I must have spent over half-an-hour on the phone with the Department’s student services manager. She was funny, warm, welcoming and enormously helpful. She answered lots of my questions (and contacted me later with more information). Even more, her entire approach gave me one more piece of evidence that this would be a great place to pursue my graduate studies. – Second year master’s student Staff members in the Department take their cue from faculty and students. Not only do they make sure everyone’s administrative needs get met, they actively contribute to the Department’s welcoming environment. Indeed, they are known for willingness to help faculty, students and visitors navigate their way through the Department. Even as they take time to expedite paperwork and generally make the trains run on time, they also help others make social connections and get resources. One staff member puts it this way. “Faculty and students help us recognize that we, too, play a role in supporting the health of the public. We get swept up in the mission of the Department, and this idea of supporting our mission inspires us to always take our work one step further.” |
