Team-Based Approach to Mentoring The CCQTP takes a team approach to mentoring. Each trainee is mentored by a team of program faculty comprised of diverse disciplines. The mentoring team consists of one primary mentor and two secondary mentors. At least one of the mentors must have clinical training. The primary mentor supervises most directly the trainee's mentored research experience.
The process of matching mentors and trainees begins in the admissions
process. As the admissions committee reviews applications, attempts are made to
match program faculty with qualified applicants whose research interests match
their own.
Mentoring teams meet with trainees 2-4 times a year to
advise them on career issues, review and refine the training plan, monitor
progress, and evaluate performance against the plan. Faculty Mentors Thirty faculty members from 11 departments in the Schools of Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Library and Information Sciences serve as teachers and mentors. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to: cancer screening, clinical decision making, patient decision making, cancer treatment, quality measurement and assessment, dissemination of innovations, survivorship, and palliative and end-of-life care, and cancer health disparities. Program faculty members participate in the program's education and training activities and provide trainees with mentored research experiences.
