Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program in Public Health Leadership Frequently Asked Questions
For whom is the Doctoral Program in Health Leadership program designed?
The program is designed for working healthcare professionals in the U.S. or abroad with the potential and ambition to become senior leaders and who are committed to improving the public's health. See the biosketches of the Class of:

How many students are accepted each year?
We accept up to 12 students per year. We receive more than 130 applications each year and regret that we cannot admit all qualified applicants.

Must I have a degree in public health to apply?
No. A degree in public health is not required.
Must I have some experience in healthcare to apply?
Yes. You must have at least several years of experience in the health field, in a substantial management or leadership position.
Where are the classes taught?
All of the classes are taught via distance learning one evening a week.

Are any visits to Chapel Hill required?
Yes. Students visit in August, January and May for 3-4 days each.
What kind of Internet connection must I have in order to participate?
You must have a high-speed DSL or cable connection. Dial-up connections do not work with our technology.
Is a dissertation required in the DrPH program?
Yes. Students begin planning their dissertation in the first year of their studies and spend most of the third year completing it. See titles of some of the dissertations completed in this program:
