Graduation Requirements
Capstone Course
Students must complete the Capstone Course (HPM 735 - Advanced Concepts and Applications in Health Policy and Management). They must also write and submit a Business Proposal and Business Plan. This meets the requirements of the written comprehensive examination and the master's paper during the final year of study.
Time Limitation
The Executive Masters Program strongly discourages students from getting "off-track", since the program is designed to be completed following a specific curriculum plan. However, in rare circumstances that prevent a student from meeting the goals of the curriculum plan, the Graduate School allows students to complete all requirements for the degree within five years from the time they first enroll in the program.
Course Transfer Option
Our department reviews the coursework and makes the request to the
Graduate School based on the following Handbook policy of up to 20%. So
for our MHA program, we can accept up to 12 hours of credits. For our
MPH program, we can accept up to 9 hours of credits. Students may
transfer three courses from any departmental certificate program. For
example, courses completed as part of the Health Care Management and
Community Preparedness and Disaster Management Certificate Programs can
be applied towards the graduation requirements of the Executive MHA and
Executive MPH programs. If taking UNC's Certificate in Core Public
Health Concepts, all 15 credits will transfer into the Executive MHA and
Executive MPH programs.
