Maternal and Child Health
Leadership Consortium | UNC MCH Leadership Consortium |
OverviewSince 2000, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Maternal and Child Health Bureau funded Leadership Training Programs have joined together to co-sponsor an interdisciplinary leadership development curriculum for graduate and post-graduate fellows. This experience includes the opportunity to explore personal leadership styles through a 3-day leadership assessment workshop - providing the basis for an individual Development Plan (IDP) for each fellow to guide the year's journey. Additional workshops focus on important skills for MCH leaders - conflict resolution, facilitation, cultural competence, and family/professional collaboration. "just-in-time" online trainings in advanced leadership skills and peer coaching represent two enhancements to the program being introduced for the first time this year. Coordinated through the UNC MCH Leadership Consortium, this integrated approach to interdisciplinary training continues to be cited as a national model and serves as an effective platform for academic - practice engagement in public health practice in MCH. For the 2011-2012 year, four training programs - Maternal and Child Health at the Gillings School of Global Public Health, Social Work, Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and Leadership in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) at the Carolina Institute for Developmental Disabilities (CIDD) are partnering to offer this interdisciplinary training experience to leadership fellows, including family representatives.
Consortium activities include:
The mission of the UNC MCH Leadership Consortium is to work in partnership with the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, its National MCH Training Network, and state and local Title V programs to train the next generation of leaders and to better serve the MCH population.
Supporting the MCH leaders of today, preparing the MCH leaders of tomorrow. |
