AHEC and Field Service Print

The School of Public Health's AHEC and Field Services Office coordinates field training, technical assistance and continuing education activities jointly sponsored by the School of Public Health and the North Carolina system of Area Health Education Centers (AHEC). Each of UNC's five health sciences schools is linked with the nine regional AHEC offices through a network of coordinators, one of whom is based in the North Carolina Institute for Public Health. AHEC also supports academic outreach programs in leadership and health policy utilizing various distance learning formats.

This office also serves as the liaison between the regional AHECs and the School's faculty, staff and students whose activities are supported by AHEC travel funds. Students must complete a Student Field Activity Form to request AHEC support. This database allows the School to track student field activities over time to assess the strength of the School's link with the practice community. Some written products from student field placements are placed in the Health Sciences Library for easy access by faculty, students and community members.
