The following programs are part of the Office of Executive Education of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health. Many of these programs offer transferable academic credit for advanced degrees. The curriculum is designed for public health practitioners who seek to hone their executive skills and to strenghten their career plans.
Management Academy for Public Health (MAPH)A ten-month, intensive
executive education program combining traditional, classroom learning and
web-based courses. The academy uses a project-based approach and trains teams
of public health managers and their community partners. Teams develop
comprehensive, practical business plans to actively implement in their own
organizations. Southeast Public Health Leadership Institute (SEPHLI)A prestigious, year-long leadership development program
targeting mid- to senior-level public health professionals and community
leaders in Arkansas, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Tennessee,
Virginia, and West
Virginia. Its goal is to address and meet today's
public health challenges as articulated by the 2003 Institute
of Medicine report on The Future of the Public's Health,
calling for more effective leadership through workforce development education
and training. National Public Health Leadership Institute (NPHLI)Focuses on
strengthening the leadership competencies of senior-level decision-makers who
lead major, public or private health organizations working to improve population
health. Nationally-recognized expert faculty and dedicated staff with extensive
experience engage leaders in teams from around the U.S.
in individual and organization change efforts. The institute strives to assure
that officials efficiently and effectively respond to challenges in the
twenty-first century. Emerging Leaders in Public HealthPrepares the next
generation of committed, minority public health leaders to manage and lead in
times of uncertainty and crisis. With the theme, "Managing through
Turbulent Times," the program targets African American, Latino, and Native
American communities. It identifies and trains individuals with the talent to
serve in significant leadership capacities during the next decade. American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Leadership InstituteDesigned to give high potential OB-GYNs the tools to accomplish the goal of Leading Transformation in the 21st Century for
Women's Healthcare. Through a series of workshops with highly
recognized physicians, lawyers, journalists, and leadership experts employing
cutting edge leadership assessment instruments, this intensive program
"tools up" physicians with non-traditional skills. Novant Health Leadership InstituteIn partnership with NCIPH, the senior leadership of Novant has developed an
innovative nine-month leadership development program for Tier III and Tier IV
leaders. Leadership Novant addresses the challenge of developing leaders with a
global view of the organization who can help Novant meet the demands of an
increasingly complex health care industry. Food Systems Leadership InstituteOffers leadership development to upper-level leaders in higher education,
government, and industry to prepare them to meet the leadership challenges and
opportunities of the future. Health Leaders on LeadershipHealth Leaders on Leadership is a series of interviews with
prominent public health professionals conducted by Dr. Ed Baker, director of the NC Institute for Public Health. KnowledgeBoostersNCIPH KnowledgeBoosters is a website designed for alumni of NCIPH
Executive Education programs. Alumni refresh knowledge and skills,
learn new things, and connect
with colleagues.
Members have access to weblogs that discuss current issues in their
work, attend seminars in Chapel Hill or webinars, online book and job
lists, and more. |
