There are several options to continue the work of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health in bridging academic knowledge and community practice. At this time we welcome interest in the naming rights of the Institute. Various programs seek scholarship support for their training missions, such as the Management Academy for Public Health and the Office of Continuing Education. Established
in 2001, the Rachel
H. Stevens Scholarship Fund for Public Health Leadership is awarded to a
deserving student in the Public Health Leadership Program, one which prepares
public health practitioners for leadership positions and grants an MPH. The Senior Fellow program recognizes an outstanding practitioner of public health and invites him or her to spend a year in residence. While learning about the work of the Institute, that person assists in various activities and advises in the primary service areas of the Institute: education, consultation, evaluation, and emerging issues. The Institute is also creating more online training opportunities as the demand continues to grow. Financial support for this endeavor is critical. In many cases, these courses are of particular value to practitioners and nonprofit public health advocates who can afford to pay little toward course fees. Local health departments and other public health entities rely on the Institute often for advice and evaluation. Donors may earmark their gifts for field work, consultation and capacity building that benefit specific community health agencies or organizations and their partnering with NCIPH. Contact Deputy Director Dorothy Cilenti, cilenti@email.unc.edu, 919-843-5427, about how you can be involved. |
