While our primary mission is serving North Carolina, much of what we do is exported to other states and other nations. Conversely, many lessons learned through our work with other countries can be applied here in our state. Some examples of global projects include--
2006: Curriculum development for Avian Influenza Rapid Response Teams in Southeast Asia, sponsored by the Thai Ministry of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2007: Preparedness Center works with the World Health Organization's Office for the South Pacific, Communicable Disease Surveillance and Response, and Pacific Open Learning Health Net to develop training modules on surveillance, outbreak investigation, and diseases specific to the region 2007: Preparedness Center develops curriculum for public health practitioners, mainly epidemiologists, in Central America, in partnership with CDC 2007: Public Health Grand Rounds broadcasts "Public Health is Global Health" about the lessons learned in Uganda fighting its HIV epidemic (archived at www.publichealthgrandrounds.unc.edu) 2008: Caribbean Health Leadership Institute launched by the Institute's Office of Executive Education in conjunction with CDC's Global AIDs Program ![]() NCIPH staff working in Thailand.
