Service Reporting Print

For over 15 years the School of Public Health has kept records of the service activities of its faculty, staff and students. This important information is compiled for several reasons: to promote the School, its departments and faculty to the University, the state and the nation; to generate support for grant and other funding proposals, legislative actions, etc.; to document faculty involvement in service for consideration in promotion and tenure decisions; and to summarize faculty service provided to the NC Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).

The Institute is responsible for collecting service information and compiling annual service reports.

The School subscribes to the broad Council on Education for Public Health definition of service: the contribution of professional expertise to the public, including professional practice. For the purposes of service reporting, service includes contributions to the scholarly community (the School, the University, institutions specific to a discipline, and governments and organizations), to the maintenance and growth of public health professions, and to the community at large.

If you have any questions about service reporting, please contact Debbie Atkinson, by telephone at 843-6892 or by e-mail debbie_atkinson@unc.edu.
