As a result of attending this one-day workshop, you will be able to:
- effectively enforce the proposed amendments to the Rules Governing Public Swimming Pools which will be effective on May 1, 2010 (particularly the proposed rule changes regarding pool drain safety);
- review Pool Drain Safety Compliance Data Sheets to determine if the information provided is complete and the new rules have been met;
- read pool pump flow specifications;
- recognize the new pool drain covers that are compliant;
- determine if new pool drain covers are properly sized to accommodate the maximum flow of the pumping system;
- prepare written correspondence, permit actions and permit denials for pools that are not compliant with the new drain safety rules;
- determine if skimmer equalizer line covers are compliant and meet the flow requirement for the pumping system;
- and inspect pool drains to determine if they are properly installed.
There will be a troubleshooting section to help you determine the proper course of action for difficult or uncommon situations that you may encounter in determining compliance with the proposed pool drain safety rules. You will also learn about the proposed amendments to the fencing rules and how to effectively enforce them. This workshop will be especially useful for Environmental Health Specialists currently involved in their local public swimming pool inspection programs.
Participants who successfully complete this State of Practice Committee workshop are expected to receive between 5.5 and 6 hours of continuing education credit. Participants must successfully complete 80% of the course to receive credit for any of the workshop.
