As a link to academia, it is natural that one of the major roles of the NC Institute for Public Health is education. In fact, the Institute evolved from one of the largest and oldest continuing education programs among schools of public health. ![]() Several factors affect the Institute's training programs. Baby boomers retiring, new technology, reduction of travel funds, emphasis on performance improvement, and new targets for leadership enhancement all shape the future of public health education and training. The Institute and its partners work to determine what educational opportunities are needed to assure a skilled, knowledgeable, and effective public health workforce.
