"The future direction of NCIPH will be tied to the needs of those we serve: public health practitioners in North Carolina, the United States, and the world."
Ed Baker, director of the North Carolina Institute for Public Health
We will emphasize:
Workforce Development
NCIPH will continue to honor our service commitments to develop the public health workforce first in North Carolina and also across the nation as we:
- provide continuing education to front-line North Carolina practitioners;
- provide a range of executive education opportunities;
- conduct research on workforce development including systematic needs assessments and competency development to support relevant programming.
Accreditation and Quality Improvement
Our commitment to providing leadership in accreditation and public health quality movement will continue as we:
- manage and refine the North Carolina local public health agency accreditation program;
- contribute to the development of a national accreditation program led by the national Public Health Accreditation Board;
- participate in the new North Carolina Center for Public Health Quality;
- participate in the National Multi-State Learning Collaborative on quality improvement in public health;
- incorporate quality improvement tools in executive education programs;
- conduct research on the impact of public health agency accreditation in North Carolina through the North Carolina Practice-Based Research Network.
Public Health Systems Preparedness
NCIPH will build capacity to assure public health system preparedness as we:
- maintain our focus on public health preparedness through a range of training, education, technical assistance and consultation activities;
- study the North Carolina system of public health preparedness.
Enhancing Community Capacity for Active Living and Healthy Eating
NCIPH will continue to address the obesity epidemic as we:
