Jennifer Espiritu, MD, a health care and prevention student in the Public Health Leadership Program, has received the American College of Preventive Medicine's (ACPM) Don Gemson Resident Award.

Espiritu, an officer in the U.S. Navy and chief resident in the UNC Preventive Medicine Program, has been a visiting scholar at the Department of Homeland Security, researched domestic violence in refugee populations, and currently works on a statewide quality-of-care initiative with the UNC Family Practice Department and the N.C. Academy of Family Physicians.
