Espiritu, an officer in the U.S. Navy and chief resident in the UNC Preventive Medicine Program, has been a visiting scholar at the Department of Homeland Security, researched domestic violence in refugee populations, and currently works on a statewide quality-of-care initiative with the UNC Family Practice Department and the N.C. Academy of Family Physicians. ACPM is the national professional society for physicians committed to disease prevention and health promotion.
