The Spotlight on student Research poster event -- held in conjunction with
the Innovations In Public Health lecture on April 3 -- is an opportunity for students
to showcase their original research. All students are welcome to participate.
Two award winners will be selected from the presenters: the Delta Omega (Theta
chapter) award and the Gillings Student Poster award.
If you would like to present your research, please register by March 30. Contact accelerate@unc.edu for more information.

The goal of the event is to
provide students with the opportunity to enhance their professional potential
through interaction with other students and faculty; discovery of
peer-conducted research; and generation of new ideas or collaborations. The event is also a great opportunity for the
School to disseminate information about the impact of our students' research.
Since 2009, we have partnered
with the UNC chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health to
provide the honor society with the opportunity to select two students - one
nominee and one alternate - to submit their research as an abstract in
competition for the Delta Omega National Council poster session at the 140th
Annual Meeting & Exposition of the APHA.
This year, the meeting is in San Francisco, CA from October 27-31, 2012.
Delta Omega will work with the chosen students on submitting their
abstract. Delta Omega will assist in the
cost of travel and poster printing for the conference, should the Delta Omega
National Council accept the student's poster.
New for 2012, all students who
present will be eligible to win the Gillings Student Poster Award. The recipient of this Award will receive $500
to attend a professional conference of their choice.
Resources for Student Research
The Office for Undergraduate Research
The Office for Undergraduate Research (OUR) was established in 1999 to expand the
opportunities for undergraduates to engage in research and mentored scholarship
at UNC-Chapel Hill. OUR believes that information alone has a short half-life, but
students who have experienced inquiry and discovery are well prepared to address
future unsolved problems and to assume important roles as enlightened citizens
and leaders. Accordingly, OUR has a variety of resources, including financial
support, to help research become a distinctive feature of the undergraduate
experience at this research-extensive university.
The GrantSource Library is a resource for UNC-Chapel Hill graduate students seeking information on funding sources for independent research, collaborative projects, fellowships, travel and other scholarly activities. The GrantSource Library provides assistance and instruction on the best use of its resources. The library is part of the Office of Information and Communications.
