Research and practice go hand-in-hand with academics at the School of Public Health.
As a school, our most visible work is transferring public health
knowledge to the next generation of public health practitioners, but we believe it is also our responsibility to increase and test
public health knowledge through research, then translate that research
into evidence-based practice.
We conduct much of our research in our laboratories on campus, but we
often conduct research in the field, too – in our local communities,
across our state and nation, and around the world. And when we
do, we often provide public health services at the same time. For
example:
-
A researcher exploring preventative malaria treatment for pregnant
women in Malawi also works with hospital personnel to improve malaria
diagnosis and management.
-
A project to identify obesity solutions for children in the United
States also implements solutions such as classroom-based physical
activity.
-
Smog chamber experiments also provide data for the testing of EPA computer models that help regulate ozone levels.
Our research activities increase public health knowledge and empower
public health practitioners for the common purpose of improving the
public’s health and well-being. |
