About our alumni Print

Nearly 15,000 alumni of our school contribute to the field of public health across North Carolina and around the world.

  • More than a third of School of Public Health alumni live and work in North Carolina.
  • About half of those in North Carolina have stayed in the Triangle area.
  • Alumni also live and work in each of the other 49 states.
  • Concentrations reside in California, Florida, Georgia, New York and in the Washington, DC, area.
  • Others live and work in more than 100 countries such as Brazil, India and Taiwan.

Our alumni serve as public health practitioners, influence public health policy, lead health-related corporations, administer government and nonprofit health programs, conduct research, and teach students. A few of our alumni include:

  • Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
  • Director of Worldwide Epidemiology at pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline
  • President and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina
  • Nutritional Policy Advisor to South African President Nelson Mandela.

Many of our alumni network with one another and stay active with the School by participating in school events, mentoring students, collaborating on research and service projects, and providing financial support.

School of Public Health alumni are African American, American Indian, Asian, Caucasian, Latino/Hispanic and Pacific-Islander.  More than half are female.
