Engaged Institution Initiative (EII) Print

In January 2006, the UNC School of Public Heath was one of 12 U.S. schools and graduate programs of public health selected by the Community Campus Partnership for Health to participate in the W.K. Kellogg Foundation-funded Engaged Institutions Initiative (EII) that focused on eliminating health disparities.

A UNC School of Public Health Engaged Institution Team was formed, comprising 26 representatives from various community groups, service agencies, UNC and SPH faculty, staff and students. Over the past 18 months, the team developed a strategic plan for enhancing the School’s efforts to establish long-term, effective relationships with communities and work with them to address diverse needs and help eliminate health disparities in North Carolina.

The plan, developed for use by School leadership to inform future directions and actions for engaging with community partners, is called “Becoming an Engaged Institution for Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities" (PDF)
