![]() Dr. Barbara K. Rimer (photo by Lisa Marie Albert) Welcome! Thank you for visiting our School. Our mission is to
improve public health, promote individual well-being and eliminate health
disparities across North Carolina and around the world. We've earned our
ranking as the top public school of public health, and we are committed
to keep earning it--every day!
We have a grand mission, and we make a huge impact. Nearly
every day, every year, one of our faculty members or students publishes a groundbreaking, peer-reviewed article
that changes how people see an issue. Each day, some of the best students
anywhere are taught by our accomplished faculty members. Those students leave
here to become tomorrow's public health leaders,
as the students before them have done for more than 70 years!
By design, our School fosters a collegial, supportive
environment in which students work closely with faculty, staff, practitioners
and other students. Our strong departments are embedded within a School
whose orientation is collaborative and discipline-spanning. Our faculty members
are some of the most talented teachers and scholars anywhere. Yet, they are
accessible and committed to students, service, research, engaged practice and
teaching. Our staff members are among the finest anywhere, and our alumni are
public health leaders everywhere.
We are bound together by our shared commitment to make a
difference across North Carolina and around the world. We've shown that global
and local are not dichotomies, but inextricably interconnected. Our School
balances leading-edge research with an emphasis on engaged, informed,
community-based practice that focuses especially on reducing health problems of
diverse populations. A deep commitment to discovery and application guides everything
we do. Our view of public health is broad, diverse and inclusive in
disciplines, populations and perspectives. This results in unparalleled
opportunities for interdisciplinary inquiry, engaged scholarship, innovation
and impact.
We look at the world's great challenges and respond by
solving them. We anticipate future health problems and, together,
accelerate solutions to them.
Stay on top of current news and events at the School through our website, Twitter, and Facebook pages, or read my blog, Monday Morning.
