The 15-member council advises the Secretary on policies to
increase the effectiveness of migrant health centers in delivering primary
health care to migrant and seasonal farmworkers. Council members also make specific recommendations on
matters that affect the health of farmworkers and their families, including
occupational safety, housing conditions, medical and social services, and
domestic and family violence services. "As the granddaughter of migrant farmworkers, I am humbled
at this invitation to serve," Weathers said. "I am delighted to have this
opportunity to add my voice to the voices of others who are working to improve
the health and well-being of farmworkers and their families." For more information on the council, visit http://newsroom.hrsa.gov/releases/2008/migrantcouncil.htm. # # #
