Viera receives School of Medicine honor | Viera receives School of Medicine honor |

![]() Dr. Anthony Viera The award was established by the late James Watson Woods, MD, a cardiologist and professor in the UNC medical school from 1953 to 1983, to support and retain promising young members of the medical school clinical faculty. Viera also is assistant professor of family medicine in the UNC medical school.
His current research examines better ways to measure blood pressure and assess people's overall cardiovascular disease risk.
"We are very fortunate to have Dr. Viera as a member of our Public Health Leadership Program," said PHLP director Anna Schenck, PhD. "He is enthusiastic about public health and it is well demonstrated in his teaching and mentoring in our program." Schenck also is director of the school's North Carolina Institute for Public Health and its associate dean for public health practice.
