The School of Public Health is committed to public health service and practice in North Carolina, the United States and around the world. The North Carolina Institute for Public Health (NCIPH), the school's service and outreach arm, interacts with practitioners every day, helping them serve their constituents and safeguard the public's health. NCIPH provides training for thousands of frontline public health professionals each year and enhances organizational effectiveness for health agencies and organizations with its consulting and evaluation services. It also shares emerging issues and discoveries in public health, linking academia with practice.

Employee clinics, worksite wellness initiatives subject of forum
Health directors, local elected officials, health department finance, human resource, and health education directors, and community partners attended the first regional forum on employee clinics and worksite wellness initiatives, hosted by the South Central Partnership for Public Health (SCPPH) at the NC Zoo Stedman Education Center in Asheboro, NC.

Management  Academy teams continue to make things happen

Paula Black, a personal health services administrator in North Carolina's Gaston County Health Department, emailed us recently. "The Highland Health Center is right on schedule--we anticipate our Grand Opening summer 2010." Black was a member of a community team that attended the Institute's Management Academy for Public Health (MAPH), a nine-month program combining onsite retreats with team "homework" to complete a business plan addressing a local public health need.
