A Drink for Tomorrow (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Student Chapter)
A Drink for Tomorrow raises awareness of the lack of access to clean, safe water that affects 884 million people around the globe and creatively raises funds for clean water projects. We encourage the campus community to use the drinks they consume today to help provide clean water for someone in a developing country tomorrow. AcademyHealth (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Student Chapter) AcademyHealth is an organization representing
health services researchers, policy analysts, and practitioners and a leading,
non-partisan resource for the best in health research and policy. The mission
of the UNC Student Chapter of
AcademyHealth is to establish a student organization associated with the
Academy to promote and facilitate the professional development of students
interested in all aspects of health services research and health policy.
Students have the opportunity to travel to the National Health Policy
Conference in Washington DC, attend lectures, and be involved in social activities including our annual Pedal for Policy bike ride.

Biostatistics Student Association (BSA)The Biostatistics Student Association (BSA) is a open to all undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. We encourage interaction outside of the classroom through volunteer, social, and educational activities and create a stronger community within our department and throughout the School of Public Health. Carolina Breastfeeding: Evidence-based Education and Support (Carolina BEBES) The
purpose of Carolina BEBES is to provide an opportunity for interested students
to learn more about birth and breastfeeding and to advocate for supportive
practices on campus, locally, nationally and globally. Through participation,
students will have the opportunity to get involved in evidence-based advocacy, training
and community education opportunities. The organization also serves as a
mechanism for students to get involved in supporting the efforts of the
Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute. Engineers Without Borders
The Daniel A. Okun Chapter of Engineers Without Borders at UNC is dedicated to involving students from all disciplines in improving quality of life for people in resource-poor communities around the world. In collaboration with local professionals and colleagues from other universities, we collect data, design, and implement sustainable infrastructure projects to improve health and alleviate poverty. Since 2004, our chapter has worked in Cambodia, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and Moldova on projects ranging from water supply to solar electricity. During the school year, we raise funds to support project activities and conduct seminars and field trips that explore the role of technical professionals in international development work. We encourage dedicated students from all backgrounds and disciplines to join. Environmental Sciences and Engineering Student Organization (ENVR-SO)
ENVRSO provides a forum for the diverse ENVR student body. Here we can discuss issues and affect change within the department. We also interact socially and professionally with other students. ENVRSO is open to any student in the department. Epidemiology Student Organization (ESO) The Epidemiology Student Organization (ESO) is concerned with student life in the department. The objectives of ESO are to provide academic support, social support, and community involvement. Some of our activities include: 1) sponsoring an annual panel discussion on a topic of interest, 2) planning social events, 3) purchasing a subscription to the American Journal of Epidemiology, and 4) maintaining student computers and student room. UNC's Healthcare Improvement Group
UNC's Healthcare Improvement Group is a chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's (IHI) Open School. The purpose of the Open School is "to provide a collaborative venue for professional health sciences students to gain fundamental knowledge and skills in healthcare quality and process improvement." Healthy Heels introduces students to delicious and nutritious meals that they can make in their own dorm rooms through the organization of cooking demos in the dining halls, programs in residence halls and free cooking classes on campus. GlobeMed engages in global service projects that promote education about global health issues and support of projects such as Health Alert-Uganda. Health Sciences LGBTQ Alliance The Health Sciences Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) Alliance is an association of students, faculty, and staff from the schools of the health sciences (Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Social Work) working to promote the health and well-being of people in LGBTQ communities. The Alliance works to increase training and exposure of Health Sciences students to the concerns of LGBTQ people by sponsoring speakers, panels, and conferences at these schools throughout UNC-Chapel Hill. Minority Association of Pre-health Students (undergraduates) Minority Student Caucus The Minority Student Caucus (MSC) is for all students of color in the School and anyone else interested in supporting the Caucus' mission. MSC advocates for issues of concern to students of color in the School (e.g., diversity among faculty and students) and promotes research and programs aimed at addressing public health issues that particularly affect people of color (e.g. health disparities). The MSC is also responsible for organizing and managing the Annual Minority Health Conference (the Conference). The Conference was launched by the MSC in 1977 and has been conducted nearly every year since then, making it the oldest - and largest - student-run conference in the country. The UNC Gillings School of Global Public
Health will grant a new award called the Student Organization
Service Award. These awards (for a 2010 total of $5,000, with a maximum of $2,500 per award)) will support SPH student organizations
seeking funding to support an innovative service project that benefits
communities across North Carolina and around the world. Funded projects are to
be in alignment with campus-wide service programs, including Carolina Center
for Public Service, and will be competitively selected.
