| Evaluation of UAE monitoring network for outdoor air quality |

 The UAE has in place a limited network of monitors that continuously samples outdoor air for harmful pollutants such as particulate matter, ozone, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, and volatile organic compounds. The UAE wants to improve this monitoring network by increasing the number of stations, adding more advanced measurement techniques and increasing the number of pollutants that can be measured. Those improvements would enable the UAE to obtain a more comprehensive database of ambient (outdoor) air quality around the country. Researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are leading a review of the UAE's current monitoring network, working with the Norwegian Institute for Air Research (NILU). Also, the research team will use its regional air quality modeling work in conducting a preliminary design of targeted future field campaigns aimed at expanding knowledge about air pollutants in the UAE.
