2010 UNC SPHF Fellows and Dr. Nadine Barrett, Director of Community Programs at Komen for the Cure - NC Triangle
"[The Fellows] are absolutely tremendous!
They made an excellent
contribution to our organization...we couldn't be more pleased. We are
sad to see them go."
Staff from A Helping Hand, 2010 UNC SPHF Externship Program Partner
The UNC Summer Public Health Fellowship Program depends on an amazing and generous community of faculty, staff, students, alumni, employers, service organizations and more for its success.
Join our community and become part of a remarkable experience. Your contributions will benefit a select and diverse group of promising young public health professionals and likely inspire you along the way!
Please contact us to take advantage of the following partnership opportunities or to propose new ones.
Mentors
Our Fellows appreciate talking with faculty members, public health practitioners and policymakers from a wide range of public health disciplines and types of organizations. Mentoring connections can range from one-time exchanges to life-long partnerships.
Funding
UNC SPHF relies on funding from grants and gifts. We welcome all inquiries about possible funding opportunities.
Graduate assistantWe offer (a limited number of) current graduate students in the Gillings School of Global Public Health an opportunity to apply lessons learned about graduate school and public health and build their public health networks. Under the guidance of program staff, GAs provide personal support for our Fellows and engage in public health in new, fun and perhaps unexpected ways.
Service learning placements (health-related organizations)
The UNC SPHF program connects Fellows with a wide variety of public health organizations. Fellows experience real-world challenges, clients and professional environments while applying lessons learned from the service learning "course" and workshops. Our public health organization partners mentor, teach, and in other ways connect with our Fellows, who are future public health leaders.
Community service
"Public health is not a foreign concept. It is something you live, breathe, and do. So, we offer our Fellows opportunities to engage with organizations that serve our local communities. Fellows might help plant a garden or learn about the distribution of donated food. Community partners inspire our Fellows to help their neighbors and gain some enthusiastic helping hands for a day." Dr. Felicia Mebane, former UNC SPHF Director
