Key feature: Externship/Service learning experience
Service learning has been a core feature of the program. In 2011, fellows completed the equivalent of a UNC APPLES Service Learning Program service learning course with the following components:

Key feature: Community serviceFellows partnered with several local community organizations to learn about public health-related needs and how public health professionals can help. Fellows and program staff donated their time and expertise to help these communities in half-day projects.
Key feature: Personal and professional networks developmentFellows left the program with personal and professional connections that can benefit them throughout their careers. From program staff, to service learning placement sponsors and each other, Fellows took advantage of myriad opportunities to make connections and find support. |
